Katie had her first day of preschool today. It was a Home Based Head Start for 3 year olds. We'd hoped for a more involved school but I think this will be a good start and next year we'll have her in 4 days a week for about 3 1/2 hours. As the home based program, a parent comes with her to school one day a week (we go Tuesday mornings from 8:30 to 11:30) and then they have a teacher aide that comes to our house 3 times a month for a 90 minute session. It definitely made it an easy transition---Katie never got left!
Katie's teacher is Colleen Peck ("Miss Colleen") who also works with Miss Lindsay (who does our home visits) and Miss Kim (with whom Katie loves to play and read stories).
There are 9 kids in the class.
I went with her to enjoy painting hand prints, gluing buttons and shapes onto a crown, circle time with songs and learning to wash hands, and outside play--where she loved the 3 wheeled scooter and the trike with a trailer. She loved playing in the little kitchen, reading stories in the jungle tent, and using the bathroom that was just her size! (I feel like a giant in there!) They feed her a snack and lunch too! Wow! So, lots of fun and she didn't want to leave. I figured that the hesitation would be coming home not going to school! I'm so proud of her and all she can do!

Her shirt says Daddy is Smart, but Mommy knows EVERYTHING!

Katie has a name flower on the door.

The beloved scooter.

She loved pulling around classmates in the trike with a trailer. She looked for Mandy but had to wait for Daddy and Mandy to come pick us up!

At pickup time, Mandy got in on the action--library time in the jungle tent.
